Day 12 - 10 June - Leichardt Falls to Burketown - 71 km

Had breakfast by the river and got some great photos as the sun rose.  We were first off of the campers there.  Passed the Aboriginal couple that had a flat and no spare who had camped by the side if the road.

We made good time as we headed to Burketown for lunch.

After lunch was riding along and as usual heaps of cattle along the side of the road but this group were all over the road.  I was going to try and bulldog the calf.  You can see how bare the landscape is. [Will load movie later]

Went over the Albert River coming into Burketown  which was big and wide and apparently full of crocs.

Saw this sign too, never seen one like it before. [Will load later]

Got there about 2:00.

While I was waiting for Joe I had a look at the hot water bore that was just outside town.  Water was very hot, almost boiling.

Went to the post office/ general store and checked out the food situation.  Great store, good selection and better organised than most.  While we were there we both bought pre paid NextG phones.  NextG are the only phones that work up here.

Went to the Visitors Centre and the lady suggested we camp at the rodeo yards for free.  Perfect for the bike rider on a budget and in the right price range.

We went and had lunch at the bakery and then headed out for the rodeo yards.  Had a shower and washed our clothes.  Joe stayed, read and rested with the wet clothes while I went into the council offices and used their internet to update the blog.  It was meant to close at 4:00 but they seemed to forget about me and when I left to go was locked in.
  Eventually managed to escape.

Picked up Joe and we went to the new Burketown pub for a Shirley Temple and a feed.  Had a big feed of barra while we watched the locals wander past our window.

Saw this road train ready to pull out.

Went back to the rodeo yards about 8:00 pm.  We were going to sleep under the cookhouse veranda, but it was a bit cool so we set the tents up under a very bright moon and then hit the sack.
