Day 16 - 14 June - Roadside Camp to Dried Lagoon - 99 km

Another tough day. Roads are horrible but at least the weather wasn't too bad for riding.   Battled the corrugations, gibber rocks and bulldust and then while I was waiting for Joe, these guys Tim and Nick rolled up in a white Prado pulled over.  They had given Joe some water and offered me some. Couldn't say no.  These guys were great. Gave us about 10 litres of water and then started raiding their food supplies to give us stuff.  Cheese, tomato, half their lettuce and 2 tins of tuna.  Almost forgot, also a sweet potato.  These guys were so generous.

Interesting guys too.  Tim has just finished high school and is on a gap year and his brother Nick is a bit older and had been working.  They are travelling around Australia and hopefully we will catch up with them in Darwin where they have some work lined up.  Thanks Tim and Nick.  They also have a Facebook page Tim and Nicks Gap Year.

Stopped by the road for lunch and had wraps with the tomato, cheese and lettuce that Tim and Nick had given us.  Fantastic.  It seems like ages since we had real food.

Had a short sleep and headed off again. Had some really picturesque river crossings but did not appreciate the big hill on the other side of this one.

At about the 80 km mark stopped at a creek crossing and saw this bird.  What is it?

At the same river crossing was a guy, Jason in a ute with a .300 Magnum sitting in the bonnet of his car.  He was a mechanic employed by the Robinson River Station and had broken his arm so couldn't fix cars, and so was waiting to shoot a big red bull that had horns and was damaging other cows.  It had been seen in the area that morning so he was waiting for it.

His name was Jason and he also filled our water bottles and gave us some tips about the roads and the area I.e. There are crocs in the creek behind you, but thre about 100 metres up stream in the swamp.  I sent Joe up to check.

Left Jason and about 5 minutes later we heard the gun go off.  Decided to do another 20 km before we stopped for the night.  At about the 95 km mark I started looking for campsites and didn't see anything until I saw this dried out lagoon.  Not a great campsite, but it'll do for the night.

Joe flaked out beside his tent.

Gourmet tea, Continental Rich Beef and Mushroom rice and we added our old favourite tinned corned beef.  I cannot wait until we reach Borroloola and get some real food.

Going to bed 7:30 with a chorus of mosquitoes singing to me.
