Day 5 - 3 June - Mt. Surprise to Georgetown - 92 km

Up early and packed.  Went to the shop and got them to make up sandwiches for our lunch, as usual more than helpful, to the point that they patted the beetroot dry so that our sandwiches would not get soggy.  Fantastic service ethic at this place.

Lots of long hills and some great downhills.  First 20 km easy an stopped for a short break  Next 25 were a bit harder so we stopped and had the sandwiches.

Cows are on the roads up here and they are pretty nervous we are told because they are mustered using a helicopter. Joe spooked some cattle earlier and one tried to go through a fence and bounced off.  Joe almost fell off his bike...not for the first time. Did I tell you about Joe riding into Bedrock Station - he hit some gravel and bit the dust.  Wish I was faster with the camera.

Roads were generally good, but at times were single lane roads with about 2 inch drop off to the dirt shoulder.  Every time a car or truck comes along, we have to go off the blacktop, into the dirt and then back again when they have passed.

Head winds again, so we were already tired when we hit the Newcastle Ranges.  We stopped at a picnic shelter above a billabong after 20 km and took a long rest, about 90 minutes.

Didn't expect to see a traffic light out here.

Lots of downhill after that and we finally hit Georgetown about 3:00.

Also lots of carnivorous cars apparently...only in QLD.

Headed for the caravan park and the lady said it was 35 degrees and it felt like it.

Joe did shopping for tea and the next day when we would be out in the bush while I went to the Visitors Centre and used their Internet to update the pictures in the blog.

Almost up-to-date but you should check out the previous posts and the pictures.

Saw this triple tanker on the way back to the caravan park.

Fantastic sausages for tea with salad.
